Interdisciplinary Refresher course on Environmental Conservation concludes at GNDU

Amritsar, December 02, 2020:  Experts from 16 different institutions like IIT Bombay, IIT Ropar, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Kharagpur, BHU Varanasi, JNU New Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, PSCST Chandigarh, NIT Surat, NIT Jalandhar, JayPee University Solan, Central University of Punjab, Central University of Jammu, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Panjab University Chandigarh, TIET Patiala, CSIR-IHBTPalampur, University of Hyderabad interacted with participants of two weeks online Refresher course on Environment Conservation.

Deliberation were made on diverse fields like waste water treatment, ambient air pollution, sustainable development, biodiversity, solid waste management, resource conservation, smart materials, river pollution, improvement of air quality during lockdown, effect of odd-even scheme on air quality at national capital region, higher altitude plant, endangered and invasive plant species, are the topics of discussion by eminent speakers.

UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, GNDU is a flagship programme of UGC, New Delhi and running this online course under the leadership of its Chief Patron-Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu. Prof Sandhu showed satisfaction on the quality of speakers and congratulated HRDC family for conducting back to back course during this pandemic, this refresher course is the sixth such course comprising of 32faculty members from all parts of India.

Director, UGC-HRDC, Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig, welcomed the Chief guest Prof. Hardeep Singh, Dean Students Welfare on the valedictory session. Prof. Hardeep Singh shared the various initiatives taken by university like starting of electric vehicle for students and employees of the university, zero wastewater discharge campus and also shared Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sandhu vision about green campus.University is a like a mini oasis in the city with clean and green environment.

Course coordinator, Prof. M S Bhatti thanked the Chief Patron, Prof Sandhu, Dean Student’s Welfare and Director-HRDC for whole hearted support in flawlessly conducting the course without any internet glitch. The course contents varied over 12 days with 6 hours of daily interactions on different aspects of environment with total of 72 hours intensive deliberations. Refresher course concluded with participants positive feedback by Dr Surinder Singh (Panjab University), Dr.Digambar Bhosle (Maharastra), Dr Kumari Sujata (Una), Dr Jaya (Kurukshetra Univ), Dr Alok (HNB Garwhal Univ), Dr Shakti Singh (Jaipur), Dr T Vimala (Chennai) and ended with  happy note on 30 November, 2020. There were 3 faculty members from GNDU viz. Dr Vipin Kumar (Chemistry dept.), Dr Mandeep Singh (Physics Dept.) and Dr Sapna from Regional campus Gurdaspur.
